Are you among the ones who feel nervous about performing any dental treatment? Do you hate the thought of seeing a dentist? If yes, then you are not alone. Most people are anxious to visit a dentist for their routine check-up. Smile 4 U won’t dismiss the anxieties you feel and look for suitable ways to deal with them in the best possible way. We provide sedation options from tablets for mild anxiety to intravenous (IV) sedation.
With IV sedation, you will be fully relaxed during the treatment. You will also be monitored constantly to ensure you are medically fit. At Smile 4 U, our in-house anaesthetist will sedate patients within the safest guidelines and the dental practice has all the facilities to deal with emergency.
IV sedation is when a sedative drug is given into a vein. If you are nervous about having dental treatment or you are having a procedure which may be more complex, intravenous (IV) sedation is an effective and safe treatment.
While under IV sedation, you will feel relaxed but you will still be able to understand and respond to requests from your dentist.
You may be unaware of the operation and this is ideal for patients who wish to avoid the noise of the drill.
IV sedation has four main effects
IV sedation is safe when it is supervised or carried out by an appropriately trained doctor or dentist.
It is an ideal way of helping you to relax if you are nervous about the treatment.
We charge on a 30 minutes block basis. For every 30 minutes started we would charge £150.
An IV sedation is an excellent option if you are apprehensive of needles, the dentist, or dental procedures. Your dentist may also recommend this form of sedation if you are undergoing such procedures as complex root canals, implant placement, and extractions. You may also opt for IV sedation if you experience dental anxiety, and you need to undergo multiple dental procedures.
Contact us online or calling us for unbiased advice We will inform you whether IV sedation is a safe alternative for you.
No. When IV sedation is performed properly during procedures, you will not feel pain and you will not remember much of the procedure.
The treatment will be carried out in our practices.
A thin plastic tube will be put into a vein either in one of your arms or in the back of one of your hands. A drug will then be injected which will quickly make you feel very sleepy and relaxed.
Throughout the procedure your vital signs will be monitored
Sedation will make you feel relaxed and you may forget much of the visit.
You will also be given a local anaesthetic.
This involves an injection into the gum surrounding the area that you are having treated and it is similar to those your dentist may have given to you for fillings. The injection will take a couple of minutes to numb the area and it ensures that you will feel no pain during your treatment.
The length of time you will be sedated varies depending on the treatment you are having.
You will need to stay in until you are considered ready to leave the practice.
The effects of sedation can last up to 12 hours, for this time rest at home and:
